Hi Kdiddy, do you still hang around here?
I did lots of tests with the matrices and the resize filter.
    I used dvd2avi> Avisynth(MPEG2DEC plugin)> matrix patch> CCE2.5. I used the latest MPEG2DEC.dll modified by dividee.

Finally this script/settings gave me a perfect quality.(fit 2:10:46 onto 2 80minCD-R's). I can not see any difference between the original DVD and the SVCD (1500kbps avg bitrate!!!)

    LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\MPEG2DEC\MPEG2DEC.dll")
    mpeg2source("D:\MATRIX\matrix.d2v")
    Crop(0,72,720,432)
    TemporalSmoother(2,2)
    BicubicResize(480,320,0,0.6)
    AddBorders(0,128,0,128)
    ResampleAudio(44100)

    CCE 2.5
    Matrix: CCE2.62 very low bitrate
    MPEG-2 VBR 3pass 1500 (min 500, max 2500)
    luminance level 16 to 235
intra DC precision auto (I hope, cce do a precise job here. The bitrate viewer reported intra DC 10)
    GOP sequence IPPBPPBPPBPPBPP
    image quality priority 25
    no noise reduction

Speed is about 0.400, but time is not the issue...
Just want to let you know (and all other interested ones).

You can download a demo of cce and find a bunch of guides at http://www.doom9.org
If you want to use Avisynth, take cce sp 2.50

  4. @Truman

In many posts you say to add the VFAPI to cce's encoder list. How do you do that? Is it under options? Cause I open up cce and click on options then extensions but how can you add?

That is a different frameserve method than the mentioned above.
Start cce, Right-click in the middle of the window, then click on "add". That will open a window, where you can select your input file. Then the file will appear in the window, doubleclick on it to configure.

Actually I expected a little more response. But maybe this method is too complicated for most peoples yet. What a pity...

  7. No it just got pushed so far off my unread list, I never got back to it..LOL, I think I will take a look at avisynth..im not sure how much faster it will be for me...since I have to do 352x240 for my miniDVD spec, and most DVDs I get are 720x480....I just 1/2 vert & horitzonal, in CCE for resize (I know that results in 360x240, but oddly enough it still works)..so now I just wrap my .d2v with VFAPI, and load straight into CCE, which put me above 1.0 mark in encoding speed....wonder if avisynth can pass that..

  8. Well Truman, using Avisynth was more than twice as slow...droped down to .3 average instead of 1.0 ...I saw that they were different Avisynths, are some faster than others??...removing the temporal smoother jumped it to .5 at best..any ideas?

I think the BicubicResize filter is a lot slower than CCE's half vertical/horizontal "resize". For me BicubicResize look better than TMPG's resize or CCE's half vert/hori. However, I use to resize to 480x576, that's why cce's resize isn't an option for me.

There is a MMX optimized Avisynth and I use this MPEG2DEC.DLL.

    I did a short test. Resize 720x576 to 352x288: dvd2avi>vfapi>cce> speed 0.950
    dvd2avi>avisynth>cce> speed 0.900
So if you are happy with the half res setting, go that way.

  10. Ok man found the prob, was using an old AVIsynth.dll, now one dated in July of this year, claims it beta 4....the speed is much better w/o temporal smoother...I take a HUGE hit in speed with that..so now Im testing the quality of it w/o the smoother..thanks again.
