Should have posted this here instead of the newbie forum. Sorry Moderator.
Has DVD2AVI come out with a new version yet that distinguishes between formats correctly? I'm still using ver. 1.74 that may indicate a 16:9 movie as 4:3.
And while I'm here, is there a wav file size difference between 48khz and 44.1 khz audio. I know it takes longer to convert the movie when you have the 48-44.1 check box marked.
One more thing. Is a 1.33:1 full screen move the same as 4:3? How about a 2.35:1 Widescreen movie, same as 16:9?
Thanks

I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability and knowledge.
1. There is a new version of DVD2AVI v1.77.3m I think it still doesn't always
detect the movie correctly, but as long as you know if it's 4:3 or 16:9, then
just encode accordingly.
2. There is no WAV size difference between 48khz and 44.1khz as far as I'm
aware of, but i'm not 100% sure of it.
3. 1.33 and 4:3 are the same as far as I know, however 2.35:1 and 16:9 are
not the same, I think 2.35:1 is known as Anamorphic Wide Screen.Email me for faster replies!

If you are encoding it to say MP2 or MP3, then it depends on the bitrate you select. Obviously a 224 kbit/s MP2 at 44.1 kHz will be the same size as a 224 kbit/s MP2 at 48 kHz.

Thanks guys. DVDs audio is 48khz and I was selecting 44.1khz in DVD2AVI because I thought it would lower overall filesize when converting to a VCD with Tmpeg. If there's no filesize reduction at 44.1 then I'll leave everything I do at 48 from now on.
