OK, somebody game me a Hitachi DVD-RAM camcorder. I can stick the camcorder discs into my PC with Panasonic LF-D311 and export all the MPEG-2 files with Panasonic's DVD Movie Album.
The video gets saved as clips of MPEG-2 files at 640x480 with audio and with a .mpg file name.
Although QuickTime Pro on the Mac can play these files fine, they can't seem to export the audio in .MP3 format. I can convert the video to .mov or .dv formats without the audio though. .dv files can be imported into iMovie, but without the audio I'm stuck.
Also, DVD Studio Pro 1.5 cannot import the files either. The only way to import them is to reconvert them to MPEG-2 files using some 3rd party application. But again, I lose the audio.
What is the latest Mac or PC software do you guys like to use to extract the video and audio from these types of .mpg files?
Here is an example of such a file. (2 second MPEG-2 - 2 MB.)

I use Gold Wave on my PC to extract the audio from mpeg files. Then they can be saved to different formats. Among them mp3, wave, ogg, Sun, etc.
