  1. I have LOTR DVD Rips...but I wanna burn them into CDRs.....just for keeping sake......I watch it using my computer......so I'm not converting it to VCD or stuff like that

Does anyone here know how to convert them from xvid to DIVX?
I would REALLY appreciate it. .

  2. Using VDUB you need to save out the video stream separately. Under video compression tick 4.12 codec and under audio tick no audio then save as an avi file.

Now save out your audio stream as a wave. In the file information if it states unknown tag 2000 then its AC3 audio and has to be treated differently.

Once you have separate audio and video streams use them as your source in TMPGenc. You may want to demultiplex and then remux these using BBmpeg as this will ensure audio/video is in synch. Although you may be lucky and get away with adjusting the time delay in TMPGenc under the source tab.

There are plenty of guides in the forum to explain these steps, all you will need then is the appropriate software.

    Hope this helps , TOM

  4. It's not hard to do, but my point is WHY anyways?

It's just another mpeg4 codec. Converting will only make you loose some time and quality. For what purpose? Depending on the codec used to display it, the quality will vary too, and I'm wondering if you're not willing to convert because you're having problems with xvid codecs...

I'm sorry, but I see no point to this...

If you do this (there is no reason to do this) you will lose a LOT of quality. It will look like less like a DVD and more like VHS when you are done.

I thought of burning it into CDRz
I view all these movie through my computer. righ tnow...all 3 files are more than 700MB
so i thought i could convert them

so I guess I'll just have to leave it in my comp?

  7. They're already compressed. They won't get smaller by going divx.

    How big are they exactly?

  8. Metalfreak,

Maybe you misinterpreted the DivX/Xvid codecs... ?

Both DivX 4/5 and Xvid are MPEG 4 compression schemes. And to my knowledge give about the same size file and quality as one another, making it pointless to convert from one to the other. On top of that converting a lossy compressed file(wich is what DivX and Xvid are) to another lossy compressed file will only degrade the video and audio quality no matter what format you go to.

The overall summary is for archiving purposes leave the file in its native Xvid format and burn it to CD, as you will gain nothing by converting it.

Hope this helps, just trying to clarify, it just sounded like you did not know the difference in compression.

  9. Thanks alot for your explaination dude...yeah.....I guess I was pretty mixed up with both compression....i see.....both compressions are lossy.....

    I'm re-downloading CD3 now.....the file is corrupted...but I'm still able to play it. I'm using Edonkey2000....I'm 444MB now...the file size is about 701MB
when I first got CD3 file..it stated that it was corrupted
..so i guess that corrupted file must have some same frames downloaded.
I've just checked the other two files...both files are about 718MB

    anyway...thanks guys.....I appreciate it.

BY THE WAY......HAPPY NEW YEAR......although its kinda late..
    God Bless.

TMPGEnc is for converting to mpeg, not Divx.
