  1. Following the walkthroughs to extract audio from a divx file, for convertion to a VCD, I have run into a problem.

There is a 7 second difference between file length for audio and video.

When I open the video file in Vdub is warns about the VBR and will rewrite to CBR.

Is this a problem that can be fixed?

    Any hints or tips???

You can extract the audio with vdub>save it as mp3> then stretch it with cooledit2000 to the film length (in seconds).save as wav.
Extract the video with vdub and multiplex the two files with TMP.

After experiencing the same problem you had this is what I did:
using virtual dub extract the audio following the instructions for divx -> vcd or dvd, but under the audio tab ->"interleaving" either change "preload xxxx ms of audio before video starts" to zero (mine was 500ms default) or uncheck enable audio/video interleaving. Then my audio and video matched. I just disregard that warning about CBR/VBR because I'm uncomressing the audio file anyway.
