  1. Hey guys. I thought this prob could go in several places, but I figured this one was most appropriate. Let's see if anyone here can help me figure this out. The problem is playback of video in any format. This just started happening recently. If I'm playing back a VCD, DVD, MPG, AVI, RM, or QT file on my computer I get green blocks of pixelization in areas where there is supposed to be dark colors... mostly the black areas of the video. I have a Voodoo4 4800 video card, and I was told to get newer drivers. I run Win ME and I got the latest release version of the drivers, but that didn't change anything. Here is an interesting part to it also. I converted a video from .avi to mpg vcd format. Well I thought that the video problem with the green was just when viewing. However the mpg i got from the .avi had the green blocks in it too. I know this because I sent the converted file to a friend of mine and it played the blocks on his color too. So now I can't make vcd's because I'll get those pesky green blocks. Some people have said the problem is in my ram, others have said it was the Drivers. Others even said it was win me, but it didn't do this at the biginning. I originally had a Voodoo3 card and it started giving me the problem about the time I got my new motherboard. I changed the video card after that to the voodoo4 but it still did it. Someone said it could be a bios or cmos setting for color spectrum.. but I couldn't change anything in my settings that helped that. its really annoying seeing these green blocks, and now not only can I not play them back without annoyance.. but I can't convert either. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I apologize if this is in the wrong section, because it covers several areas, but I'm more concerned about playback than conversion. I hate how little things can get on your nerves so much.

That stands a fair chance of being the answer to the question. Did you do a full re-install of Windows when you upgraded the board? If not, I would suggest giving the machine a Win-Enema ( Reformat the C drive and re-install Windows ), after backing up of course, and reload with the most current drivers for all your hardware.

It's a bit drastic but it stands a reasonable chance of working.

    Good Luck,
    Ian
