  1. My comp is 350mhz and it takes me about 3 and a half hours to encode half an hour of film. I was wondering how long it will take for different comp speeds, like 500, 700, and 800mhz, to encode?? I m looking to buy a computer so please let me know.

W2K, Athlon 2400+, 512 DDR. 2-pass VBR for a 2 hour DVD encode to SVCD is roughly 4 hours.

Encoding 2-pass XviD at 480x360 from Huffyuv capture is about 20 fps.

  4. hhmmm that doesnt help me much. I cant afford a 2ghz computer. My friend had a 1.2Ghz pc and it took half an hour to to encode 25mins of film. I dont need exact time.

  7. It used to take me over 10 hours to encode a 40 min video on my 1GHz Celeron
512K SDRAM, using 2-pass VBR + filters + motion est. slowest. The source
are 720x480 mpag2, output format are SVCD.

  8. basically m8, if u cant offord a faster pc then consider the following:

buying more ram- this is v cheap, a 128 meg stick is about £15 but u will find it much cheaper in us

or you could overclock your pc- you shouldn't damage it as long as you have good cooling. if u have an AMD system then increase the FSB. i would advice getting some one who knows a lot about overclcocking though
