Hi everyone!
Well, I've burnt my first VCD 2 days ago and it was a disaster. Now that I've browsed this site I'll fix some things but I couldn't find anything on the time it takes to encode. When I did it, it took me 5 hours to convert an .AVI file (352x288) to MPEG for 60 mins of film.
Is it normal or should it be quicker?
Thx for your help.

alot depends on how fast the cpu is... but i don't see anything very unusual with 5 hours... tell us what the cpu speed is and the encodeing method selected...
You win some, and you lose some, and some get rained out... -
Do you mean computer by cpu? if yes it's a pentium III. I did some more browsing after posting and I saw that Nero was not recommended to encode, and I used it. So I guess I'll better download that other freeware everyone praises so much.
Also the picture quality was very bad when in a big window. It was very good when you watched in a very small window but awful when you enlarged. -
5 hours isn't bad for encoding time. It's less than some people get. I split X-Men in half today and both parts encoded in about 4 hrs. total time.
You'd get better answers if you edited your profile and allowed you systems specs to be viewed and always post which software you're using to rip and encode with.
Correction time, you said 5 hrs to convert avi. to mpeg, my mistake. It shouldn't take 5 hrs. for the conversion. It only took me about 30 minutes to convert X-Men before I encoded it. I used DVD2AVI to convert with and TMPGEnc for the encoding. If it works, don't mess with it, don't tinker with it and don't break it. -
look in the guides section for something called "converting low rez divx" something or other. That will get you a better quality(than nero) for your low rez divx file.
