  1. Hey whats up?
currently i have a film all set to go in maestro. it is not ripped from another source.

my question/problem is this: i want to add subtitles, BUT more of an image like the outline of my friends watching the movie (image is all black). If i right click on the subtitle line in maestro, i get a choice called 'add individual sub". this lets me actually use a jpg, psd file, bitmap or whatever (if i want) for a subtitle. I made my clip and it overlays nice. I set it to display for the right time (lets say the film is 60 min even). i change the time while in that menu, i then drag the sub for 60mins.

But after this is done the sub will not display, or if it does it only stays on the screen for like 7 seconds. If i check "force to display" while on the import bitmap screen in maestro (subtitle edit screen) it will display for however long i set it, but obviously i cannot turn it off. I need to have the sub removable.

So can anyone tell me what i might be doing wrong in maestro, or if their is an acutal sub program that will let me import jpg/bitmap instead of text or other formats? thanks again-- Happy newyear

  2. found out what i was doing wrong, but this leads to another question i wanted to ask (get to that in a moment).

here is what i did wrong/did not do. Unlike muliple audio tracks, if i make a dvd with no menu, i cannot select the subtitle, despite their being one. So to fix this (and it did) i had to
A: make a menu with a choice to turn the sub on
B" in the main prefernces have the sub already on

using choice B, once the film starts so do the subs but you can shut them off. best bet is to use the menu

Now this leads to another problem, the sub im using is a picture of mst3k like guys watching the film. this works fine but it is still slightly see through, i made this as dark as possible in adobe, i messed with the color options as well in dvd maestro. any suggestions on how i can make that bitmap image so dark that you cannot see through it at all? I know something can be done as some dvds use images like this to make "mattes" for the picture to show different film ratios (region 2 exoorcist had this) and you cannot see through those. thanks again--
