I've been trying to create my own SVCD's for ages and I'm getting to grips with it apart from when playing back on my stand alone dvd player. Have I bought the wrong one or am I doing something wrong? The quality I'm getting from CCE is great and when I playback on my PC it's fine. but on my SONY it's quite jerky and the audio is slightly out.
    I have audio @ 224kbps @ 48khz
I have the video bit rate right on max for audio and video on a svcd
    Max avg - 2410
    Max - 2530
    movie offset secs - 0
    Bicubic resize
    Telecide (PAL)

what can I say, I need advice, I'll try anything

the frustrating thing is that my standalone plays SVCD films that I've downloaded fine, these films are encoded with similar bitrates and quality as I set in dvd2svcd.

what's going wrong, is it something to do with the burning of the discs?
what speed should you burn these at?

    hope someone has the answer

    cheers

  2. Hi,

I have the same on in black.
I think you also (like me) bought the first series with Bios 1.711.
The 405 only plays SVCD with Bios 1.8xx .

    You can check by youreself.

When it is in Standby press "Topmenue" then "Clear" and then power on.
Now you will see the Service Menue and the Bios Version.
I wrote a mail to Sony a week ago, but now answer. I want to Update my Bios by Sony. Here in germany is a guy who can do this but i don`t want to spend 30 € ( http://www.karsten-becker.com ).

So the Deal is: Be the first to buy and you're the idiot. Now people buy the 405, spend less money (as i, half year ago) and get a better player too. I told that also sony, but these bitches don't answer.
