    Perhaps i'm stuppid (or just lazy), but how do I tell Nero that my Sony DRU500a (firmware 1.0f) can now write DVR+R at 4x speed?

    Neither, Godding. I believe what you need is DVD+R 4X discs. If it's not stated on the disc or jewel case, the disc will only burn at 2.4X. I've burned 16X CDs at 24X, but I don't think it works the same with DVDs.
