I am having trouble getting my DVC-II card to work properly.
I bought a new system that is an Intel Pentium 4 at 1.7Ghz with 256 mb of Rambus RAM (2 sticks of 128mb).
The motherboard is made by Intel and has all Intel chipsets (Model number is Intel Desktop Board D850GB).
The vid card is a Gladiac Ultra (has NVidia GeForce2 chipset) with 64mb of DDR.
I'm running Windows98 (Second Edition) and I have DirectX 8 and am using the latest Detonator drivers from Nvidia.
The onboard soundcard and onboard LAN device have both been disabled.
Here's the problem:
When I hit the video mode button, the preview looks VERY jerky. Then when I hit the record button, the preview is still very jerky and after 17 secs or less, the vid frame will freeze entirely as will the capturing time. This does NOT freeze my system though. I can hit stop and it will save that 17 second clip and put it into my workspace. However, I cannot capture beyond 17 seconds. I have checked my settings and they are set to capture 33 min on the SVCD template and I DO have enough hard disk space. I've tried turning preview off and that has not helped. On average, with preview on, I get about 8 secs and with preview off I can get about 16 secs.
Tech support has not been very helpful and none of their suggestions have worked so far. =(
Last night they told me that they had to "consult" on this matter and will call me back later.
In the meantime, I tried another test. I used another computer that I had. It was only a Pentium II 300mhz (and yes, I KNOW that I am supposed to use a 400mhz or higher, but hear me out on this one...). I used the HD I had on the newer comp (I unplugged the old hd as I didn't want to change any of its settings) and so I was on Win98 and installed the vid card (STB Velocity 4400 on this older comp) and removed all the old drivers for the newer comp and let it redetect drivers and stuff. Lo and behold, the card WORKED! I used the SVCD template and the only change that I made was I turned off preview mode. I was able to record 2 sessions of 30 minutes each. But when I tried to burn them using Nero 5.5, Nero complained about the stream encoding being invalid... I told it to just burn it anyways and I was able to watch it using PowerDVD though not in my standalone DVD player (which is not that big a deal since the DVD player manual states that my player is NOT SVCD compatible...).
That was at about 12 midnight last night. So I decided to turn off my comp and goto sleep and deal with it in the morning. This morning when I woke up, I tried doing it again. And bam, when I hit the button to go into video mode, I got an error message about how the application could not perform the operation if the object is closed. I was puzzled and hit that video mode again. This time it said "A device attached to the system is not functioning."
1. How would I get it to work on my newer comp (the P4 1.7 GHZ)?
2. If I can't get it to work, then how would I get it to work on my older comp? How do I resolve that weird error message?
3. I used the SVCD template. What is Nero complaining about anyways? Has anyone here burned a SVCD successfully using Nero? If so, what settings did you use? (What settings are on your template?)
I really need help. Thanks in advance.![]()
