  1. I'm just wondering, the program won't work for me no matter what I try....

I went to the cinema craft site and I'm not gonig to pay 2000 dollars for it...WAY too expensive.

So i come to my last question - Is there another free alternative?

  2. bbmpeg comes to mind.

The free version of TMPGenc works well for almost everyone. Strange.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  3. That was on my mind too. But if TMPGenc doesn't work for you then nothing else will work. That is, if TMPGEnc crashes constantly (like in my case) then all others will be the same. I'd tried them all ... I personally think TMPGEnc is the best (and free).

  4. rempeg been around a while, works for me, i used it for
    starwarsepisode2

  5. Where is rempeg? I'm eager to try it out

I tried rempeg once and I wasn't pleased with the results. Of course I was making a CVD. The video that came out was horribly noisy and blocky, although I think it might be better if you were making a DVD but I'm not at all sure about that

  7. Just check out tools...its in there...

  8. You can get REMPG2 from this site... look to the left, under tools... I usually use TMPGEnc but I keep REMPG2 around as a backup... It does a good job if 1) you're patient because this program is slow... and 2) you don't try to encode at low bitrates...

  9. bbMPEG is probably the only reasonably good and completely free MPEG-2 encoder...

The results aren't as good as TMPGEnc or CCE and it is slower, but it is completely free.

It's also great as a muxer so it's worthwhile getting a copy.

  10. might try dvdx but that is really slow though

I'm wondering why it is that you don't like TMPEGnc or what kind of system that you have that makes it crash. I never have that happen.

I would look more to fixing TMPG since
    1) It is free
    2) it is very versitile

    What is your system ?
How did you install TMPG ?
Did you load the VFAPI plugin
WHat are your environment settings ?

  13. I have used TmpGenc, different version, for a long time on two different systems with NO PROBLEMS. It has be something else, ie your system.
what is your system type, cpu, mem, what are you trying to do with TmpGenc? :P

  14. Before using Tmpgenc, make sure you do a reboot of your system to maximize resources. After return to the desktop, shut down all background processes (Antivirus, etc). You didn't specify OS, but Win98 or Win ME press ctrl+alt+del to bring up menu of background processes. Choose 'end task' for each background program EXCEPT Explorer and Systray. I've also found it useful to disable screensavers and power schemes (set Power Management in Control Panel to 'Always On.'
    Hope this is useful.

  15. As for "maximizing" a computer don't worry guys...I already do that stuff (I'm not an idiot when it comes to pcs :P I bild them in my spare time)

If you need my specs click on "Computer Details" by my name and you'll have everything

  16. Why is TMPGEnc not working for you.... ? I couldn't read all your posts since I had too much champain (or should I say "sparkling wine" since it is not from Champain? )

  17. Since you can't get it to work, maybe you overlooked something. When asking for help, don't be defensive. in my old age.... I know better

    Happy New Year

Your computer details will not help ..This is software, not hardware.

First , what version of TMPG
2nd Did you get the VFAPI plugin
    If yes
Did you run the VFAPI plugin after install
    If no
    Run VFAPI plugin

Next , environment is very important
    Under OPTION , ENVIRONMENT SETTINGS
    CPU tab - I have
    ENABLE MMX
    " MMX-2
    ENABLE SSE
    ENABLE SSE-2

Not sure if that is valid for your AMD, you tell me the processor capability

Next click the VFAPI plug-in tab

Mine will have more possibly but for the key ones I will highlight.

    AVI2 - 0 priority
    BMP/BPM/JPG/etc Reader - 0 priority
    CYBERLINK MPEG 2 - 0 priority
    Ligos MPEG2 - 0 priority
    Microsoft MPEG1 - 0 priority
Wave file reader - 0 priority
    AVISYNTH Virtualdub - 0 priority
DVD2AVI project filel reader - 0 priority IMPORTANT
MPEG2 Video Plug in - 0 priority (important if you have Mpeg 2 plugin)
Quicktime movie reader - 0 priority (only for quicktime)
TMPG project file reader - 0 priority IMPORTANT
Direct show multimedia - -1 priority Important
AVI VFW compatibility reader - -2 priority

I would start in these places ...also give a description of what you do and how it fails...Hope this helps

  19. have you tried the TMPGEnc Plus version, it's not free, but you might try that.

  20. 2nd Did you get the VFAPI plugin
    If yes
Did you run the VFAPI plugin after install
    If no
    Run VFAPI plugin
VFPAI? Hrm...this might be it. I'm am seaching folder with TMPENC version TMPGEnc-2.59.47.155-Free

The Athlon should work with that...except I beleive sse-2 ia p4 only process...I'll check that out. but now that i think of it i think no, b/c the p4's FPU uses SIMD to make up for shortfalls (and it still doesn't do the job to perfection...) while the AthlonXP has a REALLY strong FPU (unlike the k6-2....) so it can do that number crunching...

I know how to work with that...

    but VFAPI plugin?

  21. Please define "won't work".

    Lock-up? Reboot? No Response?

I have run 4 or 5 versions of TMPGenc on 3 or 4 different PC, All AMD, never had any significant problem.

    What codecs are installed?

Previous suggestion is correct, this is software problem not hardware.

    What EXACTLY have you tried?

I have never seen anyone post that they could not run TMPGENC in almost 2 years.

Yes, the SSE-2 is a P4 only process, it will be greyed out on an Athlon. The AMD is a better chip all around, as you said.

The oddball problem I've been having lately is TMPGEnc will convert a file to VCD format, but it will have no sound. These are DivX AVIs, but they work beautifully before conversion, no problems at all.

I've also started noticing that on some of them, when you go through the encoding setup, unless you manually set the beginning and ending points (these are 45 minute shows), TMBGEnc thinks they are 110 minutes long.

  24. Most new Divx's have AC3 audio and will encode no audio unless you follow the guide http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/91588.php
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  25. Here are the codecs I have installed

    Cinepak Codec by Radius Inc.
    Divx MPEG-4 Video Codec (fast-motion)
    Divx MPEG-4 Video Codes (low-motion)
    Divx 5.0 Codec
    Huffyuv lossless codec [HFYU]
    Indeo Codec by Intel
    Indeo video 5.10
    Microsoft mpeg-4 Video Codec v1
    " RLE Codec
    " Video 1
    msh261.drc
    msh263.drv
    msyuv.dll
    VFAPI Reader Codec v1.05

Yes, I have VirtualDUB, but I am unable to get HeadAC3he. I've downloaded it several times from the official site as well as a mirror, and when I try to un-rar it, it gives me multiple CRC errors and bombs.

Without HeadAC3he, the whole process is pretty pointless, isn't it?

  27. MAGOMAGO - you appear to have some sort of Hard DRive read error, or possibly a corrupt video file. Try some different files from different sources, re-download and re-install software.

Do a complete scandisk and defrag, Norton Disk Doctor if you have it.

The "READ ERROR" indicates a corrupt file, either program or input, CCE giving same error points to either source file corruption or HD read\write problem.

  28. I've tried it on 4 different files....

Hrm...I don't have any Norton stuff....

But if the HDD died i'm going to go beserk...

Though I split my hhd is a 50 and a 20 (leaving 10 for linux when the new distros come out that support all the features my new mobo has) with the 20 as storage.

    Damn....

Are there any programs that burn test the ram/hdd?

  29. I re-defragged (I did it yesterday....) again

I check disked both drives (thank god for this HDD its blazing fast)

and now i'm looking for some kind of memory test program... Anyone have one b/c I'm hoping that my memory isn't bad

  30. I am not sure if it will totaly check memory but try "SiSoftware Sandra".
