I recently downloaded and tried the test VCD from vcdhelp.com, only to find a message displayed, that apparently shouldn't have been displayed.
It told me that I shouldn't be seeing it because 'PBC Mode' should have been turned on. To do this I discovered I have to press the 'DISC Menu' button on my remote (to turn PBC on) then play the VCD again. This cures the problem and plays the VCD as intended.
The Philips DVD 634 does not come compatible with Photo-CDs, however a remote hack allows you to enable it. This hack works fine. However, in order to play the Photo-CD I have to turn on PBC again by pressing 'DISC Menu' then playing the Photo-CD.
My 'nag' is that every time I want to play a VCD/SVCD with menus, or play a Photo-CD, I have to enable 'PBC Mode' each time. If I insert the VCD without enabling 'PBC Mode' it just plays the movie, skipping the menu. This means if I forget to enable 'PBC Mode' each time, I miss the menu. If I insert a Photo-CD without enabling ‘PBC Mode’ it just does not play the Photo-CD. Also, enabling it each time is a bit of a drag...
My friend has a completely different DVD player (Alba 103) and it has PBC Mode permanently 'Enabled' whereas my DVD player seems to have it permanently 'Disabled'! I burn all my VCDs/SVCDs with Nero, and they work correctly on other machines.
I have two questions:
1) What is PBC?
2) Can I enable it permanently on my machine, and if so - how?

Any related tips/pointers/help very much appreciated...

Thanks, Cheekie
