  1. I was just wondering if there was any way to pause and then resume an encoding job in both VirtualDub and TMPGEnc. Or if there is any other way sort-of works as pause/resume. I usually can't leave my computer on 24/7 and an encoding job takes an extraordinary time.

to pause in tmpgenc you try to close the program the "x" in the top right corner then it will prompt you if you really want to abort encoding. if you do nothing then the program is paused until you check no then it will resume

If your talking about shutting your computer down, and resuming the encode in the middle upon restarting, then the answer is no. I'm not sure what TMPG will do if you have 10 batches in there and shut down in the middle of processing. My guess is whatever batch you stop on will say 'Aborted' instead of 'Done' or 'Queued' (or whatever is usually says).

Define 'extraordinary time'? And what's wrong with 24/7? Even 98 can stay up for a few days.

  4. Ok, what about Virtual Dub? Same thing?

Extraordinary time as in over 108 hours for encodes. It's not that I don't trust Windows to stay up that long, but it's just that my family won't allow the computer to be on for 24/7, wasting electricity and stuff.

I have e-mailed TMPGEnc in the past and made a similar requested. I sure would like to see some kind of a crash recovery system build in because of all the encoding time. I don't know how it could work but it sure would be a welcome addition to an already great encoder. The problem lies in the fact the first entire pass (in my case) is just analyze so basically nothing physical to save. Well that is why I don't write software code.
