    Hello All

I am still trying to go from Imovie2 to burning a DVD-R on a G4-500MHZ
    AGP with OS9.2.1 and OSX10.2

It seems that the Pioneer DVR 105 will work, and that I could use Toast 5
Titanium to do the DVD-R burning.

However, i received the following message from "Roxio" :
"Toast is only a burning software. It will only burn to DVD a file that
is in a video_ts file format. This format is available through idvd."

Not knowing how "toast" works, I was hoping to export an Imovie2 into
toast and then burn a DVD-R.

Apple will not sell Idvd to people who own a Mac without a superdrive.

Am I pursuing a lost cause ? or is there a way to go from Imovie2 to toast 5.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

  2. you need either idvd or dvd studio pro. i recommend dvd studio pro though...

  3. The other way would be to encode the audio and video with something like MediaPipe, then mux and image with MMT, then burn with MMB. These are all free applications.

  4. Lots of ways to do this. All described somewhere in this forum. I would say that he simplest and cheapest for a newbie to create a basic DVD is:

    1) Export the movie from iMovie to iDVD-type movie

    2) In ffmpegX
    open the .movie
    save as something
use the mov to svcd preset
    set autosize to dvd
set other parameters how you wish but check keep elementary streams
pick a bitrate (up to 9.8M)
    ENCODE

    3) Use sizzle to multiplex the elementary streams (.m2v and mp2) above and create a dvd.
    4) Preview with the std Apple DVD player, then Burn with toast

All that is needed is ffmpegX (free), sizzle (free) and toast.

If you want to try a different encoder use the Quicktime MPEG 2 export component (cheap- not sure how much?) and use that video stream in sizzle in place of the ffmpegX video stream, but you still need the ffmpegX audio stream. Your choice.

Saying this I don't use this method. I like bitvice and DVD SP or even iDVD. BTW anyone can buy iDVD from the applestore for $20. Not sure if idvd works with the Pioneer DVR 105, it works fine with the DVR-A03 (internal) I put in my G4.

    Good luck
