  1. If it maxes out at 2500 bitrate, at what bitrate should I create my SVCD's? I tried at 2500 and that gave me trouble as well, so how much lower should I go?

I suggest making somes tests on CD-RW. try 2250, 2000, 1850. This will allow you to see what your player handles best and saves discs.

What would be the easiest way to re-encode my SVCD to a lower bitrate? If it takes 4 hours or more, I will just use the whole DVD2SVCD (without ripping again ofourse).

when you do your re-encoding do it from the original source (dvd rip) dont just re-encode the mpeg2 file, that would get bad results. instead of encoding the whole movie just do like the first 20 minutes of the movie with the different bitrates then compare them. Not familiar with dvd2svcd, i use the programs manually, smartripper-dvd2avi-tmpgenc-nero.

My very nice 5-CD Koss 270 player had the same problem, but it maxed around 2200. I took it back and got a VERY cheap apex 1201 and it has taken everything I've fed it. I basically took a 1 minute video clip...and encoded it in TMPG progressively from 1600 up, then burned onto CDRW as segments. It played 1600,1800,2000...then got squirrelly.

I then did a VBR(800/2200/2500), which had a black+white intro (read very low bitrate to display), and a super high action scene. It played fine until about 3 seconds into the action scene then it froze.

Take the time to test your player (or find the results in a forum) and you will be a much happier encoder!

  6. I am using DVD2SVCD and using the settings from here: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvd2svcd.htm

I played my burned SVCD on my PC with PowerDVD and it was perfect. But when I play it on my DVD player, the sound and picture become out of synch. I tried lowering the bitrate to 2250, but still had no success. And sometimes, the sound jitters a bit. I found a setting on bbMPEG that I am curious about, called "Movie Offset Seconds". It is set to 2 as default. Could this be a problem? Does it change the actual MPEG-2 or just the way it is read? With the 2 second offset, it plays perfect on my PC, but not yet on the DVD player.

So what do you suggest? Should I leave the offset alone and keep messing with the bitrates, or should I change the offset? If there are any other settings that you think may need tweaking on DVD2SVCD, then please let me know.

Also, it seems the frames move smoother on the original DVD than the MPEG-2 file. Is there something I can tweak for this?

    Thanks!
