  1. I want to make SVCD's or DVD's from captured Dish programs. Plan is to use ATI AIW 8500 to capture to hard drive. I notice the Dish uses MPEG 2 all ready. When I capture, will I have to re-encode the shows, or will they stay MPEG 2? Is there an add-on PCI card that'll plug into my motherbord, faciltitating the cable from the satellite hook up directly to my PC? Thanks

  2. If you are using a standalone sat.tuner, you will have to "re-encode". But if you get a sat.tuner card for your pc you can grab directly to harddisk. http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/index.htm

I don't think the DVB/satelite stream is dvd or svcd compatible, so you may still have to re-encode.. Not sure..

Demultiplex the mpg2 with Tmpeg and get the information on it's elementary streams. If the video is in correct frame size for DVD then encodeing is not necassary. The audio must be sampled at 48000 to be DVD standard. If the audio was captured in wav or pcm, convert it to mpa.

  4. I see some of this under Digital Free to air Television. But I do have a few questions. I see some stuff for NorthAmerica so can I presume this will work in the US? What kind of dish does this require, one of the huge old C-band and KU types? I have an extra DiSH disk. My guess is that it would require a different LNB at least. Actually, for me the easiest would be a card that worked directly as a DiSH network receiver, but I've never seen one. Does such a beast exist? Thanks for any help folks could give. Even just pointing me to a site would be a hel.
