  1. I have an AVI file that is around 700 mb, and (needless to say) I need to split it to put it on VCD. However, I'm using NeroVision Express to burn it with menus and NeroVision automatically converts the file durning the burning process. So I don't have to convert the video twice, is there a way to simply split the AVI video into two AVI files without any sort of conversion or loss of quality and then convert each one in NeroVison? What program would I need? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

  2. The guides over there <<<<< include a section on how to cut Divx(AVI) files.... As for Nero Express... There are better MPEG encoders out there

  3. I've heard TMPGEnc is supposed to be the best encoder, but I'm having trouble finding a program to burn with. I tried the Disc Wizard in Power Director Pro, but it keeps giving me errors during burning. What is the best program to burn with that also allows you to create menus and chapters? I know they give you a list on this website, but I was hoping someone with experience could give me a recommendation.

  4. Although Nero Burning ROM has a lousy Mpeg encoder, it is very good at menu creation and burning. My advice would be to encode a VCD using Tmpgenc (VCD templates are included), and use Nero to Create menus and burn...

Does that template thing mean Nero won't reencode the file automatically?

  6. Yes, as long as you dont change any settings such as audio or video bit-rate, then Nero should accept the file as VCD compliant. If you are a first time Tmpgenc user then the only setting you should change is Video/Motion Search Precision - Set to "Highest Quality (Very slow)", if your system is half decent, then it wont be too slow, the quality will be excellent compared to Nero's encoder...

Yes, VirtualDub can cut for you without re-encoding:

  8. Um...it's in the burning process, and Nero says it is "Transcoding ___.mpg" Does that mean it is reencoding the file, or is that normal, or is it because of the menus? I hope it isn't reencoding yet again!

    I think it's re-encoding again.

  10. But....but....but that's the thing I don't want it to do! I didn't change any of the settings in TMPGENc except the Highest Quality and moving the end point so the file would be small enough, and in Nero all I did was add menus and chapters. GRRR!!!! Why isn't it working?

Did you use a VCD template in Tmpgenc? If you did, and only changed the quality setting, then Nero SHOULDN'T re-encode the file...

  12. Er...um...uh...did I have to do anything differently to use a template? Is there a setting I needed to change, or a download, or....?
Anyway thanks for all your help so far guys...I'll stop bugging you once I get this solved.

  13. In the Tmpgenc window at the bottom right, you will find a load button next to Settings and Save, use this to load a template. The templates are found in a folder in the same place as the Tmpgenc executable. In it you'll find templates for PAL and NTSC VCD and SVCD. Make sure you change Motion Search Precision back to "Highest Quality (Very slow)", as loading a template will reset it

  14. Open up TMPEGEnc, click load (Bottom Right) and click one of the VCD templates. i.e VIDEO CD(pal).mcf.
It will encode the video to VCD compliant and when you burn using nero, it WILL NOT be re-encoded-you have my word.

You have asked such a simple question and no1 has given you a simple answere, where are the usual helpers, away on holidays???

  15. Beat you by a minute browner

BTW: just encode a minute or twos worth and test it, it should be ok now...
