Burning without splitting the movie in half

I'm sure this has already been answered, but I looked and couldnt find it. I am new to all this so bare with me. I have SHREK in .avi format and converted it to mpg to burn it so i can watch it on my DVD player. But in the process I noticed I had to split the movie in half, putting the first half on one CD and the second on another. Is there any way I can fit the entire movie on ONE CD? Without losing any quality?

The KVCD templates will let you fit it on one CD, but there will be quality loss I think.
