  1. Hi:

    I downloaded a mpeg 2 video which graudally goes out of sync, worse and worse as the video goes on. All the guides I see in other messages refer to avi, and the soultion is to reencode or reconvert. However, this is a mpeg I downloaded, so I don't have the original dvd or avi source. Trying to load an mpeg into virtual isn't possible because I get a mpeg import filter error. By the end of the movie, the sound comes before the action by about 1 second.

    SO how do I fix a gradual auio sync problem with an mpg?

    Thx

  2. DAMN! This is an old and unanswered post, got the same problem;

    My mpeg is way outta sync at the end (I hear it before I see it), and barely at the begining, and it's an even gradual increase over the length:

    possible the audio thinks it's 30 fps and the video is 29.97 or something similar.
    My audio is about 1.5 maby 2 seconds out of sync by then end of a 40 min episode.
    I dunno:can anyone help us?can anyone help us?can anyone help us?

  3. This is THE hardest type of sync problem to correct. It's usually due to the video being shorter than the audio, due to some video frames being dropped while capturing. Capturing from video tape is much more likely to drop frames than from other sources. Frankly, it's usually more trouble than it's worth to correct, but if you REALLY want to spend the time, about the only way to correct this is to de-mux the audio/video, then see what the time difference is between the 2, then once you know that, you must compress the audio so that it's the same length as the video, then re-encode the audio, then re-mux the 2 streams again. If you are lucky, they will now be in sync. I don't have the time to go in to how to do each step, but you can look around the forums for more detailed info.

    I have this problem with some files in WMP 6.4, but NOT in Zoomplayer. In fact I wasted an afternoon re-encoding. Try a differnt player and see if it persists.

    This can be corrected, but you will have to figure out exactly how much the audio is off, strip it off, compensate it, and re-mux it. Relatively straight forward, but getting it exactly right is tricky.

  5. Thanks for all the advice, I'd like to get proficient at fixing everything so I will try this.
    The outputted VCD's have the same problem, but thanks for the player incompatibility/falmunction info

  6. Gazorgan, your problem is that WMP 6.4 was not decoding the video fast enough, if zoomplayer plays it right then its okay. Be sure to set your divx decoder on low quality.
