  1. OK, I have used FlyVCD to create a slide show of still images and background music, which is saved from FlyVCD as an MPEG. When playing the MPEG file on my PC using Media Player, it plays fine and I can hear the audio. However, when I take this MPEG and burn it with Nero as an SVCD and play it on my DVD player (Philips 724) all I get is the video, no audio whatsoever.

Is there an audio setting that I am missing in Nero??? I've looked but haven't seen anything.

I searched the forums but have had no luck so far.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

  2. I've got the same problem.
I fixed it by burning an MPEG2(SVCD) file on a VCD Disk, no loss of quality(well, not much...) and that plays just fine in my DVDplayer

  3. Thanks El Torro. Will give that a try tonight.

Hopefully the loss of quality isn't too big of an issue. The images are already a little distorted and pixelated using SVCD from FlyVCD. When using Nero and burning JPEGs directly to SVCD, the pictures are MUCH clearer.

  4. OK, tried again last night with PictureToTV creating a VCD. Same thing, audio plays fine in my PC but not on my DVD player.

I'm wondering if it's something with my player or the actual MPEG, or more than likely a combination of both.

I'm downloading TMPGEnc and will do some analysis on the MPEG file and will post it's properties, and hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

  5. I noticed you have a Philips DVD player. You might try this: Go into the DVD setup screens, select "SPDIF Setup", then "SPDIF out" and choose "PCM".

If you are using the optical or coaxial input to the DVD player (ie. digital) you may need to do this with any CD you create. You'll have to change it back when playing retail DVDs.

This fixed my problem with the sound. Hope it helps.

  6. what bitrate is the audio encoded at? Some players have trouble if it's too far away from 224kbps

  7. Thanks DanD and johnathome2002 for the replies. I think DanD may have it solved. To answer johnathome2002's question, here is my MPEG settings:

    MPEG-2 352x240 29.97fps CBR 2000kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps

I believe that should work, and I think DanD is probably right because I noticed that if I use the standard RCA wires (1 video, 2 audio) I get both audio and video. Using the component video (Y / Pb / Pr) and optical audio I only get the video, no audio. I had actually started another topic in the forums stating this.

I'll try DanD's suggestion and post the reslts. Thanks again.
