  2. This has been discussed many times before, I suggest you use the Forums
Search option, either way, some say it does, some say it doesn't, you are
the only one who can tell how it looks for you.

Video quality, yes because SVCD supports a higher video bitrate and approximately 2.72 times the resolution of VCD. Audio quality can be better also, but the difference may not be as noticable as the video quality difference.

  4. A "well-made" SVCD will look significantly better than a "well-made" VCD on a standard sized TV.

There is, of course, no limit to how bad a "poorly made" disc of either specification can go...

  5. I'd like to disagree on that, I have a store bought SVCD and ii've noticed no
quality difference over the store bought VCD I have. Quality depepnds on a
lot of factors, including your TV and DVD.

  6. I wouldn't say that a "store bought SVCD" would necessarily be "well made"...

Certainly, MY SVCDs look a lot better from MY VCDs and I consider both to be "well made". I have a pretty old TV too...

  7. Sorry, till I see a "well made" SVCD, i'd still stick to VCD, I don't see any
difference between the two, and SVCD takes longer to make, requires alot
more optimizations, and is less compatible.

Therefor for me, VCD rules, I evne got a Portable VCD/MP3 Player, how
many SVCD Portable players exist ? it's rare and expensive.

  9. I Sincerly doubt you'll be able to do so, maybe on the PC it looks better, but
not on my TV, absolutly no difference.

  10. I generally prefer making VCDs as well actually...

However, I can definitely see a difference. On my TV at least, the difference is night and day.

My VCDs at best look like new VHS. A top end SVCD is difficult to distinguish from DVD (on my TV).

  11. I believe there is a difference but how much depends on the film you are using (in my experience), some films I have encoded there is very little difference in quality but others there is a noticeable better image with SCVD with less pixelisation than VCD.
    I dunno...it might work

  12. Personaly I think quality depends alot on the playback and viewing
equipment you are using, i've got an old Pioneer 525 (5 years old) and
a near 8 years old 29" TV, so I don't think SVCD would look that much
    impressive for me.

Besides, i'll always prefer VCD, if I want higher quality, i'll buy the DVD.

  13. Personally I use both formats. It depends on the length of the movie. I never use more than two CDRs for my encodes, so for a long 2.5 hour movie, I have no choice but to use VCD. For shorter 90 - 100 minute movies, using CCE 4 pass VBR can give outstanding results. Using SVCD for any movie over 120mins is a waste of time as the results can look worse than VCD, (unless you use 3 disks of course).

In then end i think its up to the individual

  14. Like I said in my first post, this has been discussed before, and no one who
liked VCD will switch to SVCD, and no one who likes SVCD will switch back
    to VCD.

Things I was quality for, I buy the original, I got the Superman Movies DVD
Transformers DVD's, Battle Of The Planets DVD's, and others, cause when I
want quality, I prefer to pay for it.

Since i'm very satisfied with VCD, and I even saw it looked great in my eyes
on a brand new 34" Sony (Crap) Trinitron TV, i've got no problems with VCD
