Just wanted to ask and see if this will work before buying the drive. I have a laptop with a 15G hard drive and want to capture from my digital camcorder to the hard drive to edit the video. Obviously it would be better to have a second hard drive to capture the video instead of the primary. I have a firwire card for the laptop to capture the video and I want to add a firewire hard drive. Can I buy a western Digital HD and buy a firewire case off the internet for this to work? I just bought a Western Digital HD for my PC and installed it and had to run software from a floppy for it to work, so I am not sure it is possible or not.

yes you can do that but dont waste your money buying a WD hard drive with 8 meg cache -- with external firewire case , get good case and good powersupply with it .. fan good idea also ..
a 5400rpm 180 gig or 120 gig drive in a case works fine in your application and will not get so hot for long writing periods ..
of course a faster rpm drive not a bad thing either - but your not going to really see the speed benefits through firewire .. -
