  1. Greetings folks,

I am wondering if the DVD writer Pioneer A05 or 105 it is a good DVD writer, or not. I have a pioneer 105 and I am having a lot of problems in my DVD backups, I always use PRINCO and WORLDGATE Media and about 75% of my burns have problems, sometimes the DVD HOME players doesn't recognizes the disc or at the end of the movies I have breaks or the movie stops at all.

I thought that my problem was Nero, and I started to burn with RECORDMAX, but it didn’t resolve my problem. To record DVDs, record max is better than Nero; I have to agree with that. Nero has a lot of bugs and record max is more compliant with other DVD writers. But record max did not resolve my problem too, and I am starting to get focused on the Pioneer and the media I use. Maybe the expensive media, like TDK can resolve my problem, but there is a big difference in the price.

I know 3 guys that have a pioneer 105, and all of them have problems with DVD movie backups. One of them has a SONY too, and he says that the SONY does not have problems with PRINCO, but when he uses the Pioneer to burn Princo DVD's, 75% have problems.

The point is that some of this DVD burns that have problems, in some players, like mustek, Panasonic and Sony they play without any stop or breaks in the movie, but in almost HOME DVD players, specially the most cheaper have breaks, the movie stops and sometimes don’t recognizes the disc. In my case I have a THOMSOM DTH-5220 and I have a lot of problems see my movie backups, many breaks and some discs it doesn't recognize. I am very disappointed with this HOME DVD player too, so DONT BUY IT!

I would appreciate if someone can share his opinion about this.

Best regards, and all together let’s try to contribute for lower media DVD costs.

  3. My Pioneer A05 has been 100% no problems I have no problems with my cheep Bulkpaq green tops or the Neo disks I use As for the 4X problems people are having this does not concern me as 1X is just fine and im not in a rush to pump out lots of disks per hour I would rather have a good burn than a bad quantity burn if you know what im saying, I use Record now max 4.5 and firmware 1.21 and this works fine for me

Only problems I've had have been ignorance of what I'm doing and using White Label DVD-RW disks, why they fail is beyond me....

  5. I have a Pioneer 104. I found the problem is the standalone players. I have a Sanyo WDM-370 which will not play DVD-R, but it will play non-standard SVCD and VCD. My other standalone a Toshiba will play standard DVD-R and non-standard VCD, but will not play SVCD. I tried different burning software, different media, etc., after lots of research and alot of coasters, I find the standalone player decides whether or not it likes the the format.
