I am going to build own DVR out of old computer parts. I was going to do this before and had a great piece of software. It had only 3 bottons:

    record
    stop
    set timer.

It was very simple to use and only used a mouse. ONly using a mouse is important to me as then I can get a wireless one and have myself a nifty remote!!!!

So even if you dont know the software I am talking about I am open to reccomendations.

  2. Depends on your cap card - does virtualdub sound too complicated? The manufacturer's software?

    Afradi it does.

That program I was talking about was making great strides when I had a big time computer crash and lost all my hd info. Its actually a front end for Vdub. You can set up vdub using whatever settings you want, resouloution, codec etc...

Then this easy to use front end would start it for you at the touch of a button. And it was very easy to set the timer.

It saved the programs as dates so I didn't have to type names. This was very usefull for my wireless mouse idea.

  8. I know exactly which one you are talking about. I have it loaded at home. If it is the correct one, you can set it to use bios alarms, or resume from suspend, and all that. There is a handy little record dialog where you can instantly start recording by setting a duration.

It used to be called VirtualVCR, then his website said he was renaming it to VirtualDVR.

    Try here! http://www.virtualdvr.org/index_en.htm

    Let me know!
