  1. I have a file in the Xvid format with ac3 ...

It does not play well in most players I have (i think the ac3 screws things up). The video looks kinda broken up and slurs around (almost like ya on drugs - what ever that may be like !!!) ...

However, the video will play OK in vertualDUB - although the audio is not supported .... So I have done the following ...

I Streamed in audio in V.Dub to a ac3 format (actually was a .wav but ready for renaming). I then used AZID and Besweet to change the ac3 into a full .wav file. This has worked fine and I now have a 700Meg file of the wav of the film ..

Now I then have tried to use the following guide :

XviD AVI -> Mpeg1/2 (VCD/SVCD) with TMPGEnc - easy way

Now by changing the settings in the environment section of TMPGEnc (as described in the above document) it achieved the follwoing :

    1) It DID allow me to load the avi (XVID), which before it did not ...

    So far so good !!

Si I then selected the audio and then tried to start the process of producing the VCD (MPEG) I wanted ...

Hmmmm the problem is as follows :

TMPGEnc combines the audio and video OK. BUT, the resulting image (that sluring effect) was present . I thought that it might be something to do with my media player -

    So ...

I opened the partly created MPEG (from TMPGEnc) in VirtualDub to see what happend. Thjis is the effect :

    1) Unlike when I tried to open the avi (XVID) before and the sound was not there - but the video was perfect, NOW .. both the audio and video are present but EVEN in Virtual Dub that video has the same sluring effect ...

So where am I - Hell knows !!

    It seems that :

    a) The avi (XVID) will not play well in my media players

    b) The avi (XVID WILL play the video very well in virtual DUB

    c) A combination of Virtual DUB and AZID (etc) will sucessfully remove the ac3 audio and create a wav file ...

    d) TMPGEnc WILL recombine the video and audio (after changing the settings in - XviD AVI -> Mpeg1/2 (VCD/SVCD) with TMPGEnc - easy way - )

    e) The resulting output of TMPGEnc has this crazing sluring effect so I'm not better off than when I started ....

There seems to be to competing problems that make this particular movie difficult :

    a) its Xvid
    b) it has ac3

I think I have solved b) by creating the WAV ..

But how do I solve this video issue. I might have thought the video was simply naff had it not been for the fact that Virtual DUB will play it no problem (except for the audio which i understand) ...

I'm trying to understand this .... advice and thoughts would be very helpful !!

    thanks

NOW I know the solution to this shit.
I uninstalled all DivX codecs and xvid codecs. Then I Installed only xvid to test if it worked and it did but with no sound cause it had ac3 sound.
You can install xvid codecs from here:
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html

Then I installed all DivX codecs separat (Not from Nimo).
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html

After that I installed Nimo Pack but unchecked all divx codecs and the xvid codec and also uncheck a direct show filter which is Ffdshow DirectShow 2002-04-19. Install Nimo from here:
    http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/

    Now all should work fine!

By the way,AC3 comes with Nimo Pack!
