  1. I made a VCD of Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets.I burnt it at 32x and at one point in disc 2 it goes all screwy.About 3 mins later it's fine.If i play this same disc on my or any other computer it is perfectly fine. The scene that always goes out in my Home DVD player is perfectly fine.
My question is this.Does burning at a higher speed screw the mpeg up once in awhile.Or is it just that the DVD can't read it that well when burnt at a higher speed. Also when ever i burn something the lowest speed i can possibly pick is 8x is there any possible way to change this at all??

With a good burner and good media you can generally burn at the highest rated speed with no problems. With low-quality stuff burning at high speed might cause minor errors that a set-top player can't handle. A computer CD-ROM tends to be a little better at reading bad media than the drive in a set-top player. Try burning at lower speed and see if the problem goes away.

It's also possible that it's just a bad spot on that one CD-R. If you buy cheap generic CD-Rs you'll get a bad one now and then.

Most newer high-speed burners are unable to burn a CD-R at anything less than 8x. The firmware won't allow it, and usually 8x is fine anyway.

  4. Yeah i also use Nero but my writer won't go any lower than 8x.My writer is an LG 8481B 48x24x48.
My problem is probably the low quality media i use and burning it at the high speed.Like isaid it works fine on the Computer but not on the DVD player.I'll have to try it again at 8x.Lately i have been running at 8x and everything has been fine on my DVD player.Have converted the First 11 episodes of Farscapewith no problem.
I just wanted to see what other people thought and if anyone had some good suggestions.Guess i'll start burning everything at 8x speed now just to make sure. Thanks

  5. My cd's are also only 24x but I can overburn them with 32x speed. That could have been the problem as well.

    Ummm.. that maybe the problem.

I always burn my CD-Rs at a notch or two below the max rated speed of the burner. My drive is 24x and the media is 32x. I usually always burn at 20X (or lower).
