That's not a template (VBR,etc.) problem. That's a media detection problem. I have a Sony NS-300, and it's very picky with CD-R brands. Try a regular VCD template with that same media, and you'll see that you'll get the same disk error.Originally Posted by FoxGarrison

I loaded the template in tmpgenc 2.53 standard. The closed GOP comes on by default as checked, also output YUV data as Basic YCbCr. Should those be off for an interlaced movie ?

Looking at this template: http://www.kvcd.net/KDVD-720x480-Full-D1-_NTSC_.mcf
I see:
MPEG.Video.GOP_BitStreamForEdit = True
Should it not be False ???? -
I think I implied that the older model took CD-RWs only with the standard VCD template distributed with TMPGEnc--I may have been unclear--my apologies. As I had mentioned though, I had converted with a KVCD template and the machine didn't like it at all.Originally Posted by kwagThe itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout. Yes. You're looking at the old settings. The new KDVD templates haven't been uploaded yet. They will be later today.Originally Posted by draganong

Thanks !
But... The full D1 DVD template is missing the Sound tab... Is that intended ?
Is the GOP 1,5823,2,1,18 OK for an interlaced movie ?
Thanks ! -
Yes it is! Encode your audio with an external audio encoder like HeadAC3he or BeSweet. Don't use TMPEG's internal audio encoder, it sucksOriginally Posted by draganong

Just ignore it. The last value, 18, is what defines the size of the GOP.

Kwag, the TMPG internal audio codec is fine for all but the most demanding of audio applications. If you think it's bad, you should hear Xing!Originally Posted by kwag

Ahh, I would never encode MP2 audio below 192k as it sounds shite at the best of times. 128k MP2 is the equavilent of 96k MP3. I couldn't listen to that at all - not even through PC speakers!! And 128k MP2 is being sold as DAB digital radio in the UK offering CD Quality audio!! Trust me it sounds dreadful.
-
Try HeadAC3he at 112Kbps with surround 2. You'll be surprised at the sound. There's are "zero" high frequency metallic pitch artifacts, as there are with TMPEG's audio encoder at 160KbpsOriginally Posted by energy80s

I have to say that I have never heard TMPG introduce any "metallic" sounding effects into the audio - even at low bitrates or changing sampling from 44.1 to 48k or 48k to 44.1. However I do know that others have experienced this and you may be one of them. As for bitrates, I don't even like listening to LAME encoded MP3s at 160kbps (equivalent to at least 192k MP2's).

Try HeadAC3he with 112/44.1 or 128/48, preferably with AC3 source and Surround 2 downmixing. It's exceptionally good considering the bitrate.Originally Posted by energy80s

I assume that's using a DVD source. Virtually all of my encodes are from TV captures, so AC3 audio doesn't even enter the equation!

Quality is too subjective, so the only way you will find out for sure, is to try it yourself -
Okay guys,i went and got the KVCD PLUS Ver 2.0 template-352x240 120 minute.
I then ripped just vob files from a dvd with Easy VCD,which i think uses Vstrip to do it.Then i started TMPGEnc,loaded the KVCD template and clicked to start encodeing.
Does that sound right to you guys? -

hey kwag
do you have the new svcd template made yet,
I tried to use the other one and do the changes but it will not allow me to resize (auto resize to fit a 80min cdr)
and when i went unlock then save it changed a bunch of options -
All templates are in sync. Just udated the SKVCD, KVCDx3 MPEG-2, and the PocketPC templates. http://www.kvcd.net/dvd-modelsOriginally Posted by smokedvw

I don't know if kwag or anyone else has mentioned this as I have only browsed through this thread, but kwag has just released a ultra-low bitrate template which allows 360mins onto a 80min cd. Granted its not high quality but I would say its close to vcd quality.

Yes, on a 13" TV or a portable DVD player ( 6" or so ) it looks just like a VCD. The announcement was made here, with specific instructions on how to do it. And a sample of course
