First of all, I am assuming you are backing up DVD's which you already own. The only advice I have is to read the guides available on this site. You need to understand the structure of DVD's (what the files are, what thier purpose are, etc.) In other words, you need to do your homework. It took me 5-6 attemps before I got my first success. This being said, I still run in to "problem" DVD's in my collection. You will need to experiment. One thing....the "Create Ifo's" function of ifoedit can be very useful, particularly when spliting to 2 DVD's. Good luck and have fun! :P

  3. dont forget to burn with nero using udf/iso mode, its the last one
always get those darn vts sectors last thing u do, dont forget other
things like the video_ts.ifo/bup, if ur dumping the menu's let ifoedit
make new ones for u, using 095 or 088...make sure ur vts_XX_X.vob's
    are #1 and not some other...example vts_01_1.vob/ifo/bup...
always, i mean always, use ifoedit to strip something out like
subs of some sort, so they get processes correctly, most dvd's
now are using vbr so most end up under 4.5 gig if u strip them out
with exceptions like movies over 2 hrs, theyre no fun...

  5. did you remember the ever important get GTS vectors step? as if you dont the files will play under power dvd ect.. but when burnt to dvd-r even if they look proper they will not play on a set top dvd player. One reason I like Stomp Record Now Max is that it checks to make sure the files are correct, if not it will not burn. I used to use Nero ( and still do for all myother cd-r burning duties ) but it gave me too many errors ( using later builds ) for DVD-R work. A quick search of the forum here lead me to Record Now Max as it has a real good record for DVD-R work compared to Nero.

  8. Jon3255,

the basics of stripping out excessive streams from a ripped vob set in ifo edit are
    load up the ifo file
    clik on vob extras
name a new directory for the new vob files ifo will create
strip out excessive streams ( checkbox on only the streams you want to keep )

ifo will then build new vob and a new bup and video_ts.ifo files
load up the new video_ts.ifo file
clik on get VTS sectors, it will correct the offsets in the ifo files
    you are done
now it should burn fine and play back once burned to dvd-r.
