  1. My Philips DVD Player 950 can't read DVD-R Disks. But DVD Players "Comptability", I see it's possible for this media.

  3. I have the same thing with my Philips 711. I'll bet it has more to do with the player hating Accu silver/purple discs than with all DVD-Rs.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  4. I think my DVD Player 950 can read DVD-R disks
I have bought the Philips DVD Recorder 890 and this Recorder write DVD+RW.
I would play the DVD+RW into the old Player and it was not possible to
    read this disk.

    Operating instructions from DVDR 890:

some DVD player cannot play back DVD+RW recordings. You can solve this problem by using a special funktion:

Open the disc tray with OPEN/CLOSE: Insert the disc but do not close the tray.
Hold down the number button 2 on the remote control until the tray closes.
    The disc is modified.
If this fails to produce the desired result, repeat the procedure using the number bouton 3 on the remote control.
You can restore the disc to ists original condion by pressing 1.

What change the Player or the disc?

Now my old DVD Player can read DVD+rw.

I think because this special function my old DVD Player can't read DVD-R and the manuel from 950 wrote DVD, CD and CDRW and their web site can read DVD-R and DVD+R, DVD+RW
