  1. I have a JVC XV-SA72SL and just found a way to burn SVCD .bin-files with Toast. (Is there another way?) I convert the MPEG2 folder to MPEGAV and the movie file from .mpg to .dat to be able to choose in Toast "Video CD", select "Video CD file" and burn in 8x. But when I play the SVCD in my DVD-player the movie freezes frequently. The only way to move on is to hit the fast forward button for a little jump. Then it runs a while again. Both picture and sound freezes.

I have tried to follow the tip to burn the .bin (if it is a SVCD) with the Disc Image option in Toast but the DVD-player cant recognize the disc and just go into MP3 directory view.

Any solution about the getting rid of the freezes and maybe a better way to burn SVCDs in Mac?...

  2. I use VCD Builder you can download it from www.squeeds.com or just search for it on google. All you have to do is take the bin and convert it to mpeg 2 (use vcdgear or GNU VcdToolsX) , or you may already have the mpeg 2 file. Open VCDbuilder and click new sequence, drag the mpeg2 file into the box and choose burn vcd. Once its complete, it will open toast for you and all you have to do is click burn! BTW, I use the older version of VCD Builder cause the new one supports menus, which i never do, and I couldnt figure out how to burn a svcd without the menu on that new one so i retired it and went back! Hope this help.... -JAT

contrary to popular belief toast (including 5.2) does NOT have built in SVCD support for bin/cue OR mpeg-2 files. it may ACCEPT them, but once burned it will not play on 99.9% of players ( i have tested at least 6 brands without it working on a single one) your best bet is to use cdrdao and select the cue file and burn from there- no authoring to XA tracks - no fuss. much quicker (no long lead in lead out like toast) because it runs in the terminal.-- RNC has made a nice GUI wrap for this nice little burning program
