I am having some problems when ripping and stripping some Dimension Films movies. I posted a week or so ago about a problem I had with Haloween Resurrection and how when I stripped it with IFOEdit, it played both English and French at the same time which caused frames to appear to be skipping. I thought I figured out the problem and fixed it, but I didn't. Then I tried to strip American Pie 2. Both of these movies by the way are under 4GB'S when the main movie is stripped. As a matter of fact, Halloween Resurrection's main movie files are under 4 GB'S, WITHOUT stripping anything. Anyway, When I stripped AMERICAN PIE 2 and burned it and went to play it on my DVD PLAYER I noticed that it started at about 6 minutes and thirty seconds or so. After messing around I found that the movie was actually all there on the DVD+R, but for some reason It was starting on chapter 2 instead of chapter 1. Actually, when I inserted the disk and it started there, I just hit previous on the remote, and it started at chapter one. What is odd is that they were both actually "chapter 1" There were two chapter 1's. And the main movie started at the second "chapter 1". I am new to this, but I have a reason as to why I think this is happening. I noticed that before the main movie starts on AMERICAN PIE 2, there is some type of warning about graphic content, etc..usually that warning is at the beginning of the DVD, not right after the production logo's, etc. I am thinking that is screwing IFOEdit up some how. I guess I will have to experiment some more with this, but if ANYONE has any information on why some of these DIMENSION FILMS seem to screw up with IFOEdit, please let me know. I have made enough coasters as it is, and I will only burn to +RW until I know for sure. Thanks in advance

What program are you ripping with? You should rip in movie with Smartripper and ifo mode with DVD Decrypter. Both programs also have a stream rip mode making stripping with Ifoedit un-necassary. Jusy use Ifoedit to create a correct set of ifo files.

@wulf, thanks for the reply. I understand what you are saying, but being that I have never done it that way, I am a little confused. Are you saying that for those two movies, I should just rip the "main" movie files of Halloween Resurrection and American Pie 2 with DVD Decryptor or smart ripper, and also rip the audio with the same? I can't use ISO mode for either of these two movies, because the DVD's are around 7-8 GB's with all of the extras. But are you saying that I should rip them with smartripper and rip the audio stream with smart ripper? And after that, then what? I just go into ifoedit and select create new ifo's or something? If you get a chance, please let me know so that I can experiment with that method. Thanks again

If you use DVD Decrypter in ifo mode you will rip only the movie,no menus or exras. If you switch DVD Decrypter to stream and enable it you will see a list of all the streams on DVD. Select only the video and one audio stream, deselect everything else. This will rip the smallest set of files possible. Most audio streams will 448 bitrate but many DVD's also contain a 192 bitrate audio stream. Just make sure that the 192 stream is a soundtrack, many DVD's use the 192 for director's comments. Many dual layer disks will be under 4.37GB this way. Spiderman and The Time Machine are examples of dual layer disks that will fit on a DVD-R with the above.
Delete the ifo file that DVD Decrypter created.
Use Ifoedit to create a new set of four ifo files. Then use get VTS sectors with Ifoedit. Burn your VIDEO_TS directory with Nero.
I use this method and it works. -
@Wulf, I misunderstood and thought you wrote 'ISO' mode. I know about IFO mode. I am still unsure about how you are saying I should get "four" new ifo files. Just so you understand, I don't "rip" with IFOEdit...I use Decryptor or SmartRipper. Then I open up IFOEdit and select the IFO file with the main movie VOB SET. Then IFOEdit does it's thing and I have new IFO files and VIDEO_TS files. Almost always, I have no problems with the movies. But with the two exceptions I have listed with Dimension Films, I have had some problems. Basically, I am asking what it is that I have just listed that would be different from what you are telling me to do? One thing I will say is that when I do use 'IFO' mode, I don't enable stream processing. As I said, I just use IFO mode and rip the main movie to my H/D and then I use the "open" button in IFOEdit to select the main movie IFO. Please let me know so I can try this. Thanks once again for your help.
