iuVCR Option question

HI, I am using iuVCR to capture vhs videos, and I am wondering about an option called: "short audio samples"
I have found in the help what it does:

"With this option enabled, iuVCR will set audio sample size about 50 ms instead standard 500 ms. It may be useful for pausing with more precision. It is recommended to have this option enabled."

But I am very newby and dont understand very well what it does, if someone can explain me...
