    i have encoded a film from avi to mpeg,then used nero 5.5 to create vcd.but still wont play on comp or standalone dvd player that supports vcd? any ideas anyone??

    The VCD you created might be non-compliant to the VCD standard. Also, it might be that your player only supports commercially made VCD's.
