  1. Is there a good USB TV/VCR to Mac input such as MyTV or Belkin or other that supports OS X and if so what models have drivers and work well in transferring home video (VHS format) to DVD in IDVD. Can anyone make any non-biased suggestions? I was looking at the MyTV but I am not sure if it is supported in OS X. Also, looking at LIfeTV

  2. If you don't want to lose a ton of quality after capturing then you'll have to use a firewire solution. When I'm doing VHS-->svcd I simply patch my vcr to my digital camera and capture the video through BTV. There are also firewire converters you can use like the Formac studio. The only USB video capture hardware I'd buy is the EyeTV from El Gato. It's good if you want a TiVo like solution for your Mac but you end up with vcd's.

well if the only USB device you would buy is the eyetv than you have obviously never used the ADS instant dvd, the quality is flawless- i've done a few vhs captures to my computer with 0 quality loss. obviously the quality isnt dvd, but its not going to be dvd in the first place if your source is a video tape.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine

Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

the ADS USB instantDVD method is good if you don't have any editing (or very little, the encoder comes with a simple cutter)

in order to edit in FCP, i use the SONY DVMC-DA2 to port analog to DV, then a PC to encode the DV to MPEG2 (spec. tunsami), then back to the G$ to author in DVDSP... whew... time consuming, but good cost:quality ratio.

  7. If you have DVDSP, why don't you have the QT MPG2 encoder? I always use this, as it far out strips Tmpeg in quality and performance, cos it uses the G4's altivec.
