  1. Here's the scenario, I have a computer that should be able to handle this kind of work, enough RAM, enough hard drive space, etc. I am not dumb when it comes to computers but I dont have a CIS degree either.
I've downloaded two DiVX .avi rips and tried to play them in my Windows Media Player..no dice. I downloaded the DiVX 3.11 alpha and the new DiVX 4.0...it still says the file format is not supported. But get this, if I go to my computer and right click on the file, I can play it through "preview", so obviously the codec is there.
I tried Ar1z Video player and although it will play my normal clips of "the State" as well as others it wont play these DiVX files. I tried getting the Playa, but when i install it, i get a direct draw error of "the THEPLAYA.EXE file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLLirectDrawCreateEx."
I should add that these DiVX files are smaller than they should be it seems, Full Metal Jacket is a two hour movie and its compressed to a 31 meg file. When I open it in WMP 7.01 it shows the length of the movie so it seems to be all there. Ok guys, give me some help, my man up at Carnegie Mellon can't even solve this. My goal is to be able to convert the avi, to VCD of course. Hope someone can help.

Probably are the divxs not complete and to be able to play broken divxs you must fix them, read here

  5. For me, even after I install either divx 3.11 or the new 4.0, u also need from my experience atleast 6.4 of Media Player. What I do is install the 7.0 or the newer ones, then uninstall it leaving all the codecs. It leaves you with 6.4 with 7.0 codecs. Then just install either 3.11 divx or 4.0 if you haven't already, and you should be able to play the movies.
