I recently got an avi clip that, when I went to play it in the DivX player (2.0 alpha), said that it "failed to open filename". I tried it in mPlayer (the other program I use to view avis) and, after attempting to download a new codec, played the sound, but no video. So I downloaded and opened VirtualDub and it gave me an error message that was a bit more informative: "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)."
Now that I knew what was going on, I downloaded the Nimo Codec Pack (5.0 build 8) and ran it, expecting that to fix the problem (During setup I made sure that the XviD codec was checked for install). It didn't. I still got the same error in the DivX player, and mPlayer would play the fideo, but there was this green stuff all over the screen and the wuality of what I could see was pretty bad. It worked fine in VirtualDub.
I'd like to be able to play the file in one of the other two players, or both, so I was wondering if there was anything else I could do to fix the problem, or maybe if there was something I left out or did that would cause things to not work right.
Thanks,
- Pat
