  1. I can't seem to import an AC3 file into this program. Is there a trick to this? Is there a good working guide to this program once you have the .MPV and .AC3 files needed to make a dvd?

    Jcuervo811,

I don't think DVD Workshop will import an AC3 file..

This is from the Ulead site under importable media:

Audio: MPEG audio (MPA), WAV, MP3

  3. Thanks ncgoldwinger
I am sorry if this question has come up before a few times but I just can't seem to find the right answer. I have an .AC3 file that DVD2AVI created, a .MPV and .MPA that CCE created. What program should I use next to create my final MPEG/VOB file? I have Ulead DVD Workshop, DVD Factory, Media Studio, Maestro, and Spruce Up. I don't understand Maestro that well.

DVDWS will not accept an ac3 file as an elemental stream. Mux your ac3 and mpv with TMPGEnc, or bbmpeg..., and then import the mpeg 2 file. I do it all the time. TO get DVDWS to play your ac3 audio add play ac3=1
to dvdws.ini and have an ac3 decoder installed on you system for example by installing PowerDVD...

    Lamont,
I have tried to mux the two files in TMPegenc through mpeg tools->multiplex as a MPEG2 program stream VBR. However, DVDWS does not seem to recognize the audio protion of the mpeg file when I import it. Am I going about it wrong when I am muxing the two files together?

First, I assume your ac3 is compliant. The audio file name is xxx.ac3 and your video file xxx.mpv or xxx.m2v. Open TMPGEnc and select Mpeg Tools and use simple multiplex. You don't have to choose anything, TMPGEnc will do it all. Click the video browse button and select your xxx.mpv. Click the audio browse button and select your xxx.ac3. Click the Run button and off it goes. If TMPGEnc rejects your ac3 file most likely it is not compatible. How did you create it?

DVD Workshop will handle a mpeg2 file with ac3 encoding, it just will not mux a m2v file and a ac3 file inside the authoring program, rather you'll get a message ( about a a3c encoded mpeg 2 file ) saying the audio is not DVD complaint and ask if you want to continue anyways, and it will also not re render the mpeg2 file. It works fine and will build the vobs file proper and it will burn fine and play back fine.

If you want to hear the ac3 playaback inside of DVD Workshop d/l an ac3 codec ( unless you laready have one installed )
Find your DVDWS.INI file (you'll have to enable the "search hidden files") and change the "playac3" value from 0 to 1. That should do it.

  10. what version do you have, I read somewhere in a thread that it may be only ver 1.2 or 1.3 ( patched versions ) that allow for ac3 play back.
