I'm trying to rip a DVD and convert it to a VCD, following the instructions from the 'The newbies guide to fitting a movie on 1 VCD.'
I setup cladDVD and it seemed to work fine. When it was done DVD2AVI popped up and after a while it was finished. Next I followed the instructions for TMPGEnc and it seemed to go ok until I gotto the point where it says to load the d2v file. I could not any files until I selected it to show all file types, then I saw them all. I tried to load the d2v file but TMPGEnc would not let me. It gave me a message like the file type was unsupported or it could not open it.
Any ideas where I messed up?
Thanks,
LR

If you read Sefy's newbie guide, you'll see that he recommends unzipping all your ripping and authoring tools to a single folder in order for them to work with each other properly. I have all my tools in my TEMPGenc folder and have no problems with my rips. I start my rips with Smartripper, great program.
If it works, don't mess with it, don't tinker with it and don't break it. -
As others have mentioned, make sure your DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc exist in
the same folder, without the DVD2AVI.VFP file, TMPGEnc cannot open D2v!!!Email me for faster replies!

Thanks guys.
I got my DVD2AVI from cladDVD. After reading your suggestions I copied the DVD2AVI files from CladDVD and put them into the TMPGEnc and tried again.
This time I could see the file right away. However, when I hit 'Open', I got the same error message.
My TMPGEnc is version 2.59, and I have Divx 4.12 and 5.02 installed.
Thanks again for your help,

Make sure you have DVD2AVI.VFP where your TMPGEnc is, also, did you
happen to use the Force Film feature ? sometimes it can cause problems.Email me for faster replies!

I do have my DVD2AVI.VFP file in my TMPGEnc folder. However, it was not there when CladDVD ripped the movie and automatically loaded DVD2AVI.
I don not recall if I used the 'Force Film' feature. In fact, with my newbieness, I'm not sure what program uses 'Force Film' or where it is.
Thanks,

I Suggest now that you have the DVD2AVI.VFP, that you re-create the D2V
and WAV files again, i'm rather sure now that it's there, it will work.Email me for faster replies!

OK, but I'm a little confused.
Should I have CladDVD start DVD2AVI? If CladDVD does, it will be using DVD2AVI files from its folder, not the ones I copied to the TMPGEnc folder.

What you needi s the same version of VFP that is used by CladDVD to be
present at the TMPGEnc folder, if you have any different version, TMPGEnc
will not be able to open the file.Email me for faster replies!

I made sure the DVD2AVI files I copied came from the CladDVD v1.3 folder, including the DVD2AVI.VFP file, were placed in the same folder as TMPGEnc.
I do see the d2v file in TMPGEnc, but get the same error when I try to open it.
hmm..........................

Like I said before, re-run the DVD2AVI to re-create the D2V files, that should
fix your problem.Email me for faster replies!
