  1. Right, first off, ive searched through this forum already for a post about my problem and havent been able to find one.

I looked through the guides about converting XVID to MPEG-1 with TMPG and did as it said. I then split the MPEG file into 2 sections so it would fit on 2 disks. I then went to burn the first part of the film (Signs) to disk and it said that it was not encoded properly and presented me with the options of re-encoding or turning off non-standard compliant VCD. I didnt re-encode it and carried on burning. I then played the VCD in my DVD player to discover that the video only played back in a small box at the top of the screen, not the entire screen size. I then went back and re-encoded the video using Nero and burnt it to disk and now the playback is squashed up width-wise and the quality is pretty terrible. Has anyone else had problems with this xvid version of Signs or this problem with XVID encoded video?

Please can someone suggest what i've done wrong or need to do or direct me to a topic where this problem is explained.

    Thanks very much..

  2. Check here to see if your DVD player can play XVCD.

If you play the encoded movie on the computer (before burning) how does it look?

I would'nt use NERO for encoding (not so good)...
    Stick to TMPGE.

Test a small 5 min segment and burn onto cdrw before wasting anymore cdr's.

  3. Ahh dont worry, I fixed it! I just re-enocoded the MPEG to have a 16:9 aspect ratio and so that its was 352x240, 29.97Hz and had 44100Hz using TMPG. It works fine now, sorry for posting, ill make sure i try everything next time before i post. I wasted 4 god damn CD's trying to get this to work , i really should invest in some CD-RW's
