  1. k, i wanna buy a new capture card cause mine sucks ass! i read the comparison chart, but i got mixed reviews from everyone. i have some main concerns:

    need to capture at 720x480
need MJPEG hardware codec (MPEG1 would be nice)
    need SVHS in/out
has to work with Win2K (for NTFS file system issues)
dont want to spend over $250 CAD

seems that the ASUS, Matrox, Dazzle, and Pinnacle stand out the most. and is it true? is ATI that bad?

lemme know your feedback, i just dont want to make the wrong decision. thx...

  2. DC-10+ (~$89) should do what you want, if you have a stompin' puter. MJPEG by hardware, Zoran chip. Can convert to format of your desire later by software of your choice.

  3. but does it work with 2K? that is a main concern. i need to capture hi res almost uncompressed AVIs. within the NTFS system. read the specs and it looks good.

  4. Humm.. Dont know about that, I had W2K on my system for exactly 2 daze, a night mare of stability! HA HA! Gone back to W98SE.

I dont know if they plan on supporting W2K, I think last I check no plans were en place. Thats another reason I stick with 98, much more software and hardware compatability.

I know what you doing with the NTSF, your busting the gig barrier, but you can also spawn new files at set file sizes with AVI_IO... Or is that VirtualDub that does it?

If I can ever get time to put my card in my new system, Ill snap off some samples and post a URL for you to see what I get. MJPEG is *very* good, best quality video Ive seen, but for practical reasons, TMPGEnc is alsways used to go to VCD.

    Tip oh da day:
Good quality source -=> TMPGEnc -=> Good quality results!

    Good luck man!

  5. sort of a bummer... im running dual 866 PIIIs on dual RAID 40G hard drives. but however, i am dual booting. i use panasinic to encode VCDs an i find it more smoother with my skate videos, but it does bleed the colors. maybe ill switch back.

right on! thanks for the help. ill try out that card afterall. man i love the 30 back money guarantee.
