Following a guide I was able to get a great Divx movie "back-up" where the process was quite difficult to follow. Many here have recommended Gordian Knot as an All in one solution. I am not sure if I have things set up correctly for gordian Knot. I installed the following:
Gordian Knot 0.21 installer then update 0.23 then update 0.26
Unzipped the lame 3.92 zip to the gordian knot folder
Installed the Xvid Binaries (I thought these were the Divx 4.XX)
Questions:
The guide I have shows in the bitrate calculator choices for divx 3 and divx 4. When I open Gordian Knot I have only choices for Divx 3 and Divx 5 so I can not select Divx 4. How do I get Divx 4 or is it just a size calculation and assumes that 4 and 5 are the same size?
I looked at the version of virtualdub and it is 1.4.10 but the version of vitualdub I have been using for capture and for the Divx that I did without Gordian Knot is newer 1.4.13. sould I be updating the Gordian knot folder or leave it with the older virtualdub version
Is the Xvid codec the same as Divx 4.11 or is the Xvid another type of encoding and is not a Divx format at all? The guide I was following from www.doom9.org showed to use the Xvid not the divx 4.11 like I used without Gordian Knot.

Took me a while but I think I understand now.
I was following the guide for doing XVID with Gordian Knot and that is almost the same as not using gordian knot at all it defeats 90% of the ease of use of Gordian Knot. Not sure what the advantage is of using Gordian Knot and XVID.
Using the 0.26 version of Gordian Knot however only has Divx 3.XX and 5.XX there is no tab for 4.xx. Anyone know why Gordian Knot dropped the Divx 4.xx or is there an addin that one needs to use that I could not find to put this codec into Gordian knot for use.
Also 0.27 Gordian Knot install has latest Virtualdub. -
The best place to ask this would be at www.doom9.org - the place where you probably downloaded Gordian Knot. You will find there a forum devoted to Gordian Knot.
I imagine the reason why 4 was dropped is because 5 replaced it. DivX 3 is (so far as I know) not a proprietary product, so some people still choose that in preference to DivX 5.
Depending on how you use Gordian Knot, it is possible just to use it for creating an Avisynth script to crop and resize (and possibly de-interlace), and to get an idea of the bitrate to use. This you can still do using the DivX 3 settings. You may need to make some adjustment to this, but from what I recall the bitrate difference between 3 and 4 will not that great.
And you can usw whichever version of Virtualdub you prefer with the .avs file and bitrate indication from GK. -
Isn't that more or less the same as saying 4 was dropped because 5 replaced it?
