  1. I am relatively new but have successfully burned several VCDs using TMPG and the standard templates. I usually eliminate chaptors so they fit on 1 80min disc. I decided to unlock the templates so I could play with the settings and reduce the bitrate to allow something longer than 80 mins to fit on 1 disc with decent quality. I used a CBR about 850and used MP3 128 to make more room for video quality. I created an MPEG that plays fine with good A/V sync , decent quality and good audio, but when I used VCD Easy to to burn the disc (Daemon test and CD-RW) the audio sounds stacato or chopped up. I never experienced this with the standard template. The video is still fine. I have used VCD before with good results.

The reason why your audio is probably garbled up is that VCD doesn't support .mp3 audio. Your audio must MPEG-1 audio. I hope this guide will help you:

  3. MP3 audio is MPEG-1 Layer 3 audio.

    S/VCDs only support MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio (or MP2).

Even though many modern DVD players support MP3-CD-ROM play back, they will NOT play VCDs with MP3 audio.

  4. Thanks for the reply, but I guess assumed the 128 was MP3 and I was wrong. I looked at the TMPGE "other settings: Audio" and it indeed says MPEG-1 Audio layer II, 44100 Hz, Stereo, 128 bits. Could it have anything to do with wheather it is NTSC vs NTSC Film. I have the Force film setting checked, but again the resulting MPEG 1 plays fine in windows media player, it's after I have tried to create an VCD that the problem appears. I also selected MPEG 1 Video CD ( non-standard) under the system tab as the video bitrate is non-standered. This problem only appeared after I started tinkering with the standerd settings. Frustrated!
