  1. How can you tell if the DVD you are ripping is a single layer or dual layer DVD?

Count the number of VOB files? If you have more than 5 1 GB VOB files it's dual layer(4 1 GB VOB files and the last one is iffy, 3 1 GB VOB fines and it's usually single layer). You can usually assume any movie over 100 minutes is 2 layer, especially if it has 5.1 and DTS tracks, in multiple languages.

  4. the easiest way to tell if dual or single layered is to use DvD decrypter in iso mode if it shows size of over 4.7gb then it is dual layered.

  5. You could also look at the color of the disc to tell this. If it's standard silver then it's single layer. If it's a goldish color then it's dual layer.

dual layered dvds are called dvd9 and single layered are called dvd5

if you go into my computer while the dvd is in the drive, you should be able to right click on the drive and then it will say whether it is dvd9 or dvd5. Thats the easiest way for me.

(if it doesnt say 9 or 5, then just look and see if it is over 4.7GB or not. If it os over 4.7 then it is dual layered)
