  1. The MPEG2 component is installed and I have the mpeg2enc installed along with the dev tools. I got AfroPic to work for the first time two weeks ago but now it isn't working any more. My source is an M2V file and an AC3 file. Here is my output, thx in advance bilestyle or anyone else that knows what is up. It encodes the ac3 to mp2 and I am running 10.2.3. There is a possiblility that I dont have enough space to do the entire encode but I dont see why the video won't encode:

two things concern me about that terminal output

    "**ERROR: [mplex] Failed write: temp-2.mpg"

    and

    "/Users/mattr/Desktop/HeatDVDrip/shell: mpeg2enc: command not found "

the error to write temp-2.mpg i would assume would be due to the fact that you ran out of space.

the second error SHOULD only occur if mpeg2enc is fed improper commands OR isnt installed in the proper place, but if you used the mpeg2enc installer and it has worked before i would assume it is the amount of space that is needed was not met.

keep in mind you need at LEAST twice the amount of space the dvd itself takes up to re-encode in afropic, so that could very well be the problem.

    bilestyle:

I have 2 elemtary streams (.m2v and .ac3) from a 4gig+ DVD. Do I need to select "File over 4 gig" option when I do the convert? Thanks.

any time the files total (whether m2v and ac3 seperate, or a vob stream itself) is over 4 gigs you always need to choose more than 4 gigs as the option

Thanks. I wanted to confirm that. The reason I asked was that I selected it as an option and the output files from temp-2.mpg were never created. I have 2 movie.mpg files from temp-1.mpg because I limited the output file size to 795mb. Anyways, the terminal output said something like sequence missing or something. I don't have it with, but I'll post the terminal when I get home.

  6. I am trying to downsample the Heat DVD [6.18 GB] to another dvd and I only have [5.29 GB] to use (that is until I get back to my house with the external HD) is this not enough space? And if so what would most likely be the right amount of space for this encode for future knowledge.

this is the process you go through to see if you have enough space.

first off you need enough space to remultiplex the video- (when feeding ac3 and m2v) so if by themselves they are 6 gigs, you will need an additional 6 gigs for them to be rejoined into one 4 gig segment and one 2 gig segment. and THEN each needs to be re-encoded, so if you want them to just be under 4 gigs u will need another 4 gigs... so total at LEAST 10 gigs should be needed. So 5 gigs certainly will not be enough

  8. Ok bilestyle... I figured out the problem (i think) but it is still a problem. AfroPic thinks that the mpeg2enc isn't installed when I know that it is.

If I click Check for Install it says "not neccesary."

If I click Remove Install it asks for the Admin password then doesn't do anything (although my process manager shows activity for about 4 to 6 seconds).

If I click Install it says "not neccesary."

If I click Compile Latest CVS it installs successfully.

So I am wondering what the hell is going wrong!!!! I have gotten this to work once before. Is there a way I can just remove everything that has been installed by hand with the root account or is the mpeg2enc installer the only way to go about it? I am pretty sure it just has to do with this installer.

    Any help would be appreciated!!!!

yeh it acts real funky sometimes.. on some machines it works great others it doesnt.. a way to test if its installed or not is go to the terminal and type

    "mpeg2enc -help"

now help isnt a supported command but it will give you a list of commands if it is installed properly. and when you press compile cvs be certain to copy the program off the disc image first, and wait for it to finish in the terminal output before selecting the CVS radio button and pressing install. you can uninstall manually by typing the following

    "sudo rm /usr/bin/mpeg2enc"

but if the installer still thinks its there (im not sure why it does that) if you have it compile properly you can show package contents and then open the contensts/resources folder and copy the binary out manually, but keep in mind if you go this route you will have to change permissions on the file as well.

this is the line necessary to do that

    sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/mpeg2enc

but this line obviously only works if you copy the binary in first.
