Yes you need a DVD-ROM drive to be able to read DVDs.
Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, NT, or 2000; Pentium II MMX or better with at least 64MB RAM; DVD-ROM Drive and CD-R/W (Recordable) Drive -or- Combo DVD/CD-R Drive; Blank CD-R discs (for recording).

  3. All too often, I get a chance like this to realize how often the bases are overlooked. I've seen a thread this week too about someone who wanted to capture from a VHS tape, but the guide didn't mention you needed a capture card :/ ... Perhaps newbies have to read the newbie section...

    Mr. Ashburn:
"Shut up" is a mindless comment. Take care, the moderators are very serious about the way we treat each other here. Anyway, if you wish to copy your downloaded movies (not DVDs) there is an answer. Most people will copy them to VCD or SVCD format provided their DVD players can play them, or they will have to watch them on their PC players.

This only requires a CD-R writer, or you can simply watch the files with your software player.

So read the newbie guides, along with the convert and authoring how to guides at left.

  7. Hmmm. I didn't see Mr. Ashburn talk in here... something must have happened :/ Anyhow. Bashing people uselessly isn't nice...

The long and the short is, CD's and DVD's are different discs, and they need different types of drives to read them, just like you can't read VHS tapes in your DVD player... The disc somewhat looks the same, but it's not.

  8. k ill make this the simple for you, cause im here to help:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

To make a backup of your "DVD disc", you will need a DVD-ROM

To read a "DVD disc", you will also need a DVD-ROM

NOTE: "DVD-ROM" acts as a CD-ROM aswell so u can read both CD/DVD

    To burn a VCD/SVCD u will need a CDRW, not a CD-ROM

To make a DVD you will need a DVDRW, not a DVD-ROM nor a CD-ROM

    ----------
But if you buy a DVDRW, then its an all in one package because it comes with:

    DVDRW
    DVD-ROM
    CD-ROM
    CDRW
    ---------------------------
u can read all and backup all.........enjoy

Your questions are simple and obvious but ...

Your thread title sucks, ur rude, and ur too lazy too read the most basic guides provided on this site. You deserve no help what-so-ever...
