Hello, After reading the reports on this site i decided to go get one of these. Everyone says they read SVCD's perfectly but mine does not. It is jerky on most of the movies I have downloaded.
I know the Media works on this player as others have reported it too. I have also updated to the latest firmware.
Can anyone help me out, I'm sad cos its my christmas pressy and I can't watch my SVCD movies as they jerk too much - yet they run smooth on my PC.
Have a nice one all, and I look forward to hearing from you,
Michael

I have a 402 and it plays all SVCD perfectly. Read the reviews in the players section. It's how your making the SVCD that's at fault.
-
As i explained in the PM, i am not making them, merely downloading the image releases by the groups.
I also thought it may be something to do with me living in a PAL region, but then again i have no clue!!
If you could help me out here it would be very very apppriciated! thankyou

Also, to people with 402, how do I see the full MP3 name of the song? I only get the first 7 letters displayed!!
TIA -
*UPDATE* OK i have been succesful to a certain point. If i turn the player onto NTSC it plays most of the movies smoothly - however some still run jerky in both NTSC and PAL.
Don't most players now days convert to PAL without the jerking?? Is it a faulty player?
Is there a way you can easily convert exisiting SVCD NTSC Disks to PAL ??
I'd appriciate the help here guys, i'm getting somewhere!!

http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
This converts most movies to either PAL or NTSC
As for downloading Movies off the Net and looking Jerky on your DVD Player - DON'T always rely on other users to use decent encoders to convert movies...
Have a go at downloading some .mpg music videos and see if they work ok on your 402
And you can use NERO to convert movies to VCD and SVCD...
Help files can be found on the net...
My 402 plays .mpg movies with no problems apart from some lamers that don't use good convertors...
The 402 is a good player its easy to operate and has enough functions, easy to unlock to Multiregion and good value for a first time buyer ...
Special Reserve £79.99p (uk)
If you still have problems with jerkness when playing movies then contact your seller..
Possible your 402 does have a fault...
Hope any of the above helps you... 8)
Also see if you can use your movies on another DVD Player to see if it is the 402 given problems ?, That way you will also find out if its the Player ? Disc's or possible your CD Burner that might be the cause...
If you don't have Burn Proof on your CD Burner make sure you close down all Screen Savers and other non useful applications when burning ! -
This is definetly a problem of the Cyberhome 402 just look at the cyberhome forum (google will translate it for you as it is not english)
I just got one of these for my parents for christmas, and non of my VCD's will play properly in it - all encoded with TMPGEnc - and all of them play properly in both a Goodmans player I used to have, and the Pioneer I have now, and all my friends players. If anyone has a solution to this problem please let me know. -
Well my 402 (uk) works perfectly with VCD and SVCD's, just bought a old Philips CDI Star Trek Wrath of Khan VCD from a friend, nice classic movie, and it works great on my 402, maybe there is a shipment of duff 402's about.. I've had no problems with mine so far with VCD's and SVCD's.
As for TMPG Ive just used it to convert a AVI movie I downloaded the other day to .mpg and then used Nero to burn it to a Disc and it worked fine on my 402.
I did had to cut it into 2 parts due to the size of the movie... 8) -
I have a Cyberhome 528 DVD player and it won't play TMPG authored VCD's either. They play back with jumps in the picture every few seconds. The only encoders that I have found to play correctly in the 528 are Panasonic and DVDx. I would recommend the Panasonic as the picture quality is superb (even better than TMPG). At least the 528 does like SVCDs and CVD's encoded by TMPGenc - at any bitrate up to about 6Mbps. However I've noticed that it doesn't really like NTSC sources - so don't get one if your planning on importing Region 1 DVD's. I would imagine that the 402 is the same, as they both use the same decoding chips. Oh and the Cyberhome forums are in English at www.cyberhome-help.de just click on the English tab on the left of the front page.

Thanks for telling me about the English formums.
I have just tried re-encoding some of my vcd's with XingMPEG Encoder, and they now play fine in the 402.
Looks like its a problem with the way TMPGEnc uses padding and the Cyberhome players, all the other encoders mentioned seem fine. -
Yes, and I've noticed the Power DVD XP is the same. It will jump every few seconds with a TMPG encoded VCD too. It seems to be only with the standard VCD template as the KVCD ones work fine, so it isn't an MPEG1 thing. And I've had no problems with any MPEG2 coded stuff.

Yes the KVCD template works fine, that is because it uses VBR and therefore doesn't use padding to 'fill out' the bitrate on low action scenes.
