The AVT-8710 arrived last week. Not only does it defeat copy protection on my VHS tapes but it does a dynamite job on cleaning up the image. The three DVD's I've made using the TBC work great.

Folks,
By the way, for those wondering what some of us are talking about, here's what you get if CGMS won't let you record something:
For what it's worth, I bought an Apex AD-5131 three-disc changer a week or two ago when Wal-Mart had piles of them. Hooked that up to my DMR-E50 via S-Video, popped in a DVD, and hit the record button -- worked like a charm!
So far, it has recorded any commercial DVD I've tossed into it. Oh, and for what it's worth again, I just want to make a few "compilation" DVD's of my existing DVD's -- my favorite scenes from the Star Trek movies, and so on. I'm kind of a "short attention span" viewer. And, yes, I'd KILL to be able to record my Star Wars commercial VHS tape to DVD, but the picture above shows what happened when I tried that. I guess I'll have to get me one of them there boxes....

How do you have your AD-5131 hooked up to your Panasonic recorder? I tried to copy from the 5131 to the E80 and got the copy protection screen. I am using the S-video cable and L-R analog for sound. -
I'm trying to copy from my HS2 to a VHS. I contacted the local Panasonic dealer and they informed me that the HS2 was designed so that I can't copy my homemade DVD's to VHS, which I think is BULL. Their reasoning? They said they didn't want me to copy commercial DVDS. When I pointed out this was my own DVD and not a commercial one, she then said, "well the machine will still THINK you're copying a commercial DVD."
Has anybody been able to get around this? How?
thanks for any help -
The Sima CopyMaster will not defeat the macrovision however this device works great either recording from VHS or from another DVD player to my Panasonic E50 recorder.

Here's one that I use, although I didn't pay that much for it -

I brought mine back in the 90's for $5 at a discount store. They had hundreds of them! I already had a similar model I got at a local video store for $59, so I just brought one to see if it would work like my more expensive one, and it did. I went back that afternoon...every single one gone! Sold out!
I use mine with my Panasonic E50, no problems what so ever.
