  1. I'm pretty educated in this area and I wouldn't call myself a total n00b, but here is my situation. I have successfully converted around 25-30 AVIs into VCD with no problems using the VirtualDub/TMPGEnc method. Recently I have run into some problems trying to extract the audio from certain AVIs. I have tried using AVI2WAV instead of VirtualDub and the extraction worked, but the .wav file it created was totally unbearable and had major chops in it.

Here is the file information of an AVI that gives me problems in VirtualDub:

    Video: (Band of Brothers1-Curahee.avi)
    Frame Size, FPS = 640x352, 23.976 fps
    Comp: DivX MPEG-4 Low-Motion

    Audio:
    Sampling: 48000 Hz
    Channels: 5 (Stereo)
    Sample Precision: 0-bit
    Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)

I choose no compression as stated in most all tutorials. Under audio conversion I choose 44100Hz as stated in tutorials. When I click to "save WAV" I get this error:

"The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format."

I've tried changing things with sampling rate and all that and haven't been able to get it to work. It's really beginning to piss me off. If someone can please help me I would be so appreciative. If I should use some other software please let me know. Thanks.

  4. Vdub cannot handle AC3 audio files. It gets confused. I have had similar responses by Vdub when dealing with this sound format.

  5. You have a divx with AC3 audio. Vdub doesn't identify it.

You can direct stream copy to a AC3 "wav" or you can look at this guide on converting http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#ac3
